About Double Glazing & Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme
The Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme (DGCOS) aims to protect customers and improve the glazing industry’s reputation. DGCOS vets all members to guarantee exceptional service to consumers. DGCOS protects customers from when they sign a contract with a member until the end of their guarantee. DGCOS offers consumers free insurance products to keep them protected as well as a free advice line.

Before joining the DGCOS’ trusted network of installers, a tradesperson must meet a twelve-point accreditation system as a minimum. Some of these requirements include:

• Undergoing a five-point credit and background history check on the proprietors

• Providing DGCOS with a minimum of ten customer references who can be independently approached

• Providing DGCOS administrators with a copy of their current Health and Safety Policy

• Providing every customer with a Written Guarantee

• Submitting to the legal jurisdiction of DGCOS and the Ombudsman

DGCOS members are also subject to ongoing vetting to ensure that they are always adhering to the DGCOS’ high standards.

DGCOS members can offer customers an Insurance Backed Guarantee and deposit and stage payment protection. This is automatic once customers use a DGCOS member. DGCOS members are obliged to register a customer’s details within 48 hours of them signing a contract, and DGCOS will then issue an insurance certificate. Once the work is complete, the DGCOS will give the consumer the Insurance Backed Guarantee along with a customer satisfaction survey.

In addition to the insurance services that DGCOS can provide, it also has access to an exclusive Compensation Fund which honours any awards made by the Ombudsman, and any money drawn from the fund must have the Ombudsman’s authorisation.
