About City and Guilds
City & Guilds is a skills development organisation backed by a Royal Charter. It exists to ensure that people can contribute successfully to businesses and economies, by working with education providers, companies and governments.

City & Guilds creates relevant qualifications to help people get the skills that employers seek. Currently, it has developed over 500 qualifications in 28 industries, including carpentry, electrical installation, plumbing and heating. Qualifications include exams, distance learning and practical lessons, so you can be sure that someone with a City & Guilds qualification has earned it. The levels of the awards range from entry level to the equivalent of a postgraduate degree.

The organisation dates back to 1878, and in 1881 King Edward VII became its first President. Queen Victoria granted its Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1900. Today, its Royal President is Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

Currently, City & Guilds works in over 80 countries with regional offices in China, Hungary, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and the USA. It also has a presence in every further education college in the UK. The UK Head Office is in London.
