Tayport, likewise called Ferry-Port on Craig, is a community as well as burgh, and parish, in the region of Fife, Scotland, acting as a traveler community for Dundee. The slogan of the Burgh is Te oportet alte ferri ("It is incumbent on you to carry yourself high"), a pun on Tayport at auld Tay Ferry. Tayport lies close to the north eastern pointer of Fife. To the north it looks across the River Tay to Broughty Ferry as well as Broughty Castle. To the east is the substantial Tentsmuir Nature Reserve, an area of forested dunes determining some 3 km from east to west and 6 kilometres from north to southern and also edged by vast sands that proceed right round to the mouth of the River Eden. The civil parish of Ferry-Port on Craig has a population of 3,815 (in 2011).
