Strathaven is a historic market community in South Lanarkshire, Scotland as well as is the largest negotiation in Avondale. The community was granted a Royal Charter in 1450, making the Town of Strathaven a burgh of barony. The existing estimated population is 7,500. The community is located on the edge of the strath of the Avon Water, around 6 miles (10 kilometres) from Hamilton as well as 18 miles (29 km) from Glasgow. The A71, which links Edinburgh as well as Kilmarnock goes through the town. In the 2001 demographics the community had a population of 7,700. Strathaven has one secondary school and also three primary schools - Kirklandpark Primary, Wester Overton Primary, and St Patrick's Primary. It also has a yard landing field about 2 miles (3 kilometres) to the north west on Lethame Road.
