Banbridge

The town of Banbridge is within Northern Ireland's County Down. It is positioned on the River Bann and a dual carriageway, with its name coming from a bridge that was built over the River Bann in 1712. It's a part of the civil parish of Seapatrick and the historic barony of Iveagh Upper, Upper Half. Banbridge is presently the administrative centre for the Banbridge District Council. As recorded in the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 16653. It is categorised as a medium town and of the population, 24.4% were under 16 years old, 16.1 percent were over 60 years of age, and 49.5% were male, leaving 50.5% as female. In its early years, the town was a coach stop for the road in between Belfast and Dublin, and it prospered in the manufacturing process of Irish linen. A noteworthy area of the town is its recognisable main street, which rises to a steep hill prior to levelling out. An underpass had to be constructed in 1834 because of the demanding street causing horses carrying heavy loads to faint before they could get to the top of the hill. Constructed by William Dargan, it is officially called the Downshire Bridge, even though it's often known as 'The Cut'. The town is widely recognized for being near to the Bronte Homeland in Rathfriland, attracting a lot of visitors for this reason. A further attraction is the annual busking festival, 'Buskfest', which has been running since 2004. Participants have usually travelled long distances to busk, and also the event finishes with an evening concert consisting of performances by established artists. For all of your home upgrades, be certain that you select reputable pros in Banbridge to ensure that you get the top quality service.

FAQs

Are there different types of solar thermal panels?

There are two different types: flat plate, where lots of thin tubes carry water through a flat absorber panel, and evacuated tube, where vacuum glass tubes capture the sun’s energy directly. There is little difference in performance between the two but evacuated tube panels do more obviously extrude from the roof.

Do I need planning permission for solar thermal panels?

Most domestic solar thermal panels do not need planning permission and are covered by permitted development rights. There are restrictions on the size and location of these systems. If you live in a conservation area or listed building, or want to install a very large solar thermal system, check with your local authority to see if you will need planning permission.

How do solar thermal panels work?

Solar thermal panels work by capturing heat directly from the sun and using it to heat water. This hot water is then passed through a coil to heat the water for your central heating system. Solar thermal systems are compatible with many existing conventional boilers with hot water tanks, and can be set up to feed in to your existing heating system.

is solar thermal worth it in the uk?

If you’re thinking about installing a solar thermal system in your house, it’s always important to put into consideration numerous factors before you proceed. While some solar thermal systems are suitable for use at home, there are also some that are suitable for businesses or organizations which normally requires a big amount of hot water like hotels, restaurants, schools, hospitals and many more. You’ll also find some types available in the market that are suitable for communities to satisfy communal hot water demands.

It should, however, be noted that solar thermal systems do not have the capacity to produce all the hot water demand of a house. In the UK, an average household will need an annual water heating of between 3000kWh to 5000kWh. Whereas, a solar thermal system is only able to meet about 40 percent to 60 percent of this demand.

With that in mind, it’s also worth noting that during the summer months when the solar radiation is at its peak and hot water demand is relatively lower when compared to other seasons, a solar thermal system may be able to provide all of your household’s hot water needs. This implies that during this period you may not find the need to operate your boiler at all. However, during winter or colder months, when you have a higher hot water demands in contrary to a lower solar radiation, a solar thermal system will only be able to take care of about 20 percent of your household’s hot water needs. And that ultimately implies that during this period, you’ll need to rely more on a alternative or backup source of heat like gas, coal, electricity, oil or LPG.
