Roofline | Soffits / Fascias in Highbridge
Excellent. Helpful, speedy and very efficient. Pleasant people to deal with, thank you
Fascias and soffits are an important part of the majority of guttering systems. Not only do they provide support for the guttering itself, they improve the design of your house by creating a clean and neat finish to the roofline. Fascias or fascia boards are horizontal boards that sit on the edge of the rafters of your roofing, closing the end of the roof and providing the support that the guttering is fastened to. Soffits run under the fascia boards, closing the gap and protecting the underside of the rafter ends. Soffits are often ventilated to make it possible for the roof timbers to breathe and to avoid any moisture accumulation. Box ends are utilised where the horizontal fascia meets the diagonal barge board that runs up the edge of the roof profile, giving a neat finish to an otherwise ugly join.
Fascias and soffits are typically produced from either wood or UPVC. Timber fascias and soffits are usually on older properties and remain popular. However, timber fascias and soffits can rot with time and expose the rest of the guttering to problems or leaks. More recently, UPVC fascias and soffits have been increasingly popular as they offer a resilient option that will not rot. UPVC fascias and soffits are available in a wide range of colours to fit any home, although white is popular as it has a traditional appearance. Fascias are also available in ogee moulded designs, where feature grooves are included. These can have a stunning effect.
How much replacing your soffits and fascias costs depends on several things, including the size of your property, the materials you use and where you live. However, the cost of a soffits and fascias project tends to range between £1,300 and £2,000 for most people.

Watchet is a harbour town, civil parish and electoral ward in the English county of Somerset, with a population of 3,785. It is located 15 miles (24 kilometres) west of Bridgwater, 15 miles (24 kilometres) north-west of Taunton, and also 9 miles (14 km) east of Minehead. The town exists at the mouth of the Washford River on Bridgwater Bay, part of the Bristol Channel, and on the edge of Exmoor National Park. The initial negotiation may have gone to the Iron Age fort Daw's Castle. It after that transferred to the mouth of the river and also a tiny harbour developed, called by the celts as "Gwo Coed" meaning Under the Wood. After the Saxon conquest of the location the town established and was called Weced or Waeced and also was attacked by Vikings in the 10th century. Profession using the harbour gradually grew, in spite of damage throughout several extreme tornados, with import and also exports of products including those from Wansbrough Paper Mill up until the 19th century when it raised with the export of iron ore, brought from the Brendon Hills using the West Somerset Mineral Railway, mainly to Newport for onward transport to the Ebbw Vale Steelworks. The West Somerset Railway also offered the town and also port bringing goods and individuals from the Bristol and Exeter Railway. The iron ore profession reduced and discontinued in the early-20th century. The port proceeded a smaller business trade till 2000 when it was exchanged a marina. The church is devoted to Saint Decuman who is believed to have died right here around 706. A very early church was built near Daw's Castle as well as a brand-new church was erected in the 15th century. It has a number of burial places and monuments to Sir John Wyndham and his family members that were the lords of the chateau. Samuel Taylor Coleridge's rhyme The Rime of the Ancient Mariner which was written in the location is commemorated by a statuary on the harbourside.

Fascias and Soffits, just like any other components of a home, do not last forever. They can become tired and worn out over time which implies that you’ll have to replace them to prevent further damage. Getting this project completed can be quite costly, but it doesn’t have to be. Fitting soffits and fascias is very simple task which will leave you with both a modern and contemporary styling which requires little maintenance and also more savings. What’s more? You don’t have to worry about repainting the fascias and soffits on an annual basis, all you need to do is a gentle wipe down of the features with a damp cloth to have them look good.
If you’re a competent DIYer and confident enough to pull off this task, then all the better. However, if otherwise, we’d strongly recommend you hire the services of a reliable contractor who can guarantee the best results for help. Here are the steps you can follow to fit your fascias and soffits.
Fascias ( a 18mm fascia board)
✓ This is designed for a direct fix without a need for a timber substrate. Simply secure them directly to the rafters with the help of 2 x 65mm a4 stainless steel fixing nails per rafter.
✓ Ensure that the rafters are level.
✓ Cut the boards back 5mm per edge to enable expansion where any white corner trims, joint trims or angle trims is needed.
✓ Secure the guttering to all third rafter.
Soffit ( 9mm soffit board)
✓ Ensure that the preservative treatment to the structural timber has dried out.
✓ Fix all utility boards of about 100mm to 605mm in width at a maximum of 60mm centres.
✓ If ventilation is needed, there are some soffits that are available in 150mm to 605mm widths and also provides the 10mm air gap needed for roof with a pitch above 15 degrees
Having ventilation in the roof void is a requirement for building regulations approval. Fitting ventilated soffits is the typical way that this roof ventilation is achieved. If you do not have roof ventilation, you may find that your roof void has problems with condensation or overheating.
You can paint your soffits and fascias if they’re made of wood. In fact, it’s a good idea to do this every few years, as it can help to preserve them and keep them looking smart.
You can choose what you paint your soffits and fascias with by deciding what kind of look you want to achieve. You can stain them if you want to maintain a natural wood look, or use an exterior gloss or satin paint if you want to change their colour.
In general uPVC is used for soffits and fascias as it is very strong and durable. It also requires very little maintenance. However, wood can be used and is still popular on listed properties as it retains the original material. Older and listed buildings may require more traditional materials to be used.
We can help you get more soffits and fascias work with our qualified job leads and boost your business.
