Leatherhead
Leatherhead is a town in Surrey, England on the right bank of the river Mole, and beside the adjoining built-up area of London. The town covers a total area of around 4.84 square miles. Its regional district is Mole Valley. Records exist of the area from Anglo Saxon England. Just north-east of the midpoint of Surrey and at a junction of ancient north-- south and east-- west roads, parts of the town have actually been a focal point for transportation throughout its history. A main early spur to this was the building of the bridge over the seasonally navigable River Mole in the early medieval period. Later the Swan Hotel provided 300 years of service to horse-drawn coaches. In the late 20th century the M25 motorway was built close by. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11316 people. The town has re-developed routinely through differing fiscal needs and planning. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mole Valley District Council made plans to modernise the town, with a new pedestrianised high street and a large one-way system. It has a combined theatre and movie theatre. Leatherhead's countless business premises produce lunchtime demand and its restaurants and theatre attract people from around Surrey. The undulating streetscape lends itself more to warm summer nights. The theatre (see below) is a cinema plus has art exhibits. The bypass streets to the town centre close and function each year in the London-Surrey cycle classic which is ranked by the world's cycling federation.
