Ashtead

Ashtead is a village within the Metropolitan Green Belt of Surrey. The Ashtead Residents' Association, established in 1945, aims to represent the opinions of all who live in Ashtead via a network of more than a hundred Road Stewards and regular meetings. Ashtead has a large two-part conservation area which includes the mansion Ashtead House made use of by City of London Freemen's School, and 6 other schools. Amenities include things like parks, outlying woodland trails as well as a high street with convenience shopping, cafes and restaurants, a football club and a cricket club. There has been settlement in Ashtead since at least the Roman period, with a Roman villa excavated in what is now Ashtead Common. Ashtead appears in the Domesday Book as Stede. The oldest part of Ashtead has the principle shopping and social area of the village, with two pubs along with the Ashtead Village Club which is a C&IU affiliate. It features a small southern conservation area, however outside of this has eight listed brick buildings, both over two centuries old, including the Old Rectory which has been subdivided into Ashtead Lodge, Forge Cottage and Wisteria Cottage which are dated to roughly the 17th century and are also Grade II listed. The region north of the railway line is Ashtead Common, managed by the City of London Corporation due to a long-standing preservation order, and is a national nature reserve. Lower Ashtead is a relatively flat location leading to Ashtead Common that includes a recreation ground, a youth club and skate park, a pub, as well as a number of shops all built near the preserved large square of wood in front of the railway station. Ashtead Park contains three large listed buildings and four lakes/ponds. For all of your residence upgrades, ensure that you employ trustworthy pros in Ashtead to make sure that you get the very best service.

FAQs

Can I put a skip on the road?

Apart from the cost of hiring a skip, the area in which to place the large item is another major concern for individuals looking to hire a skip. So if you’re wondering whether you can place your hired skip on the road, there are four legal requirements that applies and must be complied with for your protection in the situation whereby a third party accident takes place. Deciding to overlook these conditions can lead to a fine or forceful removal of the skip by the local council.

Here are the compulsory legal requirements that must be fully complied with:

• Get A Permit

The local council gives out a permit for skips to be placed on the road. This permit must be acquired and the cost may vary depending on the local council in your area.

• Illuminate The Skip

Since the skip is to be placed on the road, then it’ll only make sense to have it illuminated at night or in low lighting situations for safety of all road users. According to the law, lights must be positioned at each end of the skip to be easily spotted.

• Use Cones

According to the law, a minimum of two (2) cones must be placed on the skip’s approach side for the protection of all road users.

• Comply With The Skip Requirements

You can’t place just any skip you like on the road. By the law, there are certain conditions that must be met by the skip itself before placement. It must be painted with the yellow colour on the sides, have both the owner’s name and phone number clearly written on it and must also possess a BS AU152:1970 complying red and yellow fluorescent reflective marking which is compulsory to be acquired within two (2) working days upon filling.

What can you put in a skip?

A skip is a very convenient and great means of disposing the unwanted waste and rubbish in your home. When you kick start your home or garden clear out or clean, you’d discover you have a wide range of wastes to get rid of. However before the commencement of such a task, it is essential to understand that there are particular wastes that are not allowed to be put inside a skip for several reasons by the relevant authorities. There are a handful of regulations that determines what goes into a skip and what cannot. And somewhat interestingly, this may differ depending on the skip company you recruit.

With the presence of an array of skip hire companies in the market today, there are several that can allow almost all types of wastes in the skip. However, some of the most common wastes that can be placed inside a skip includes the following:

• Broken furniture pieces

• Plastics ( because they can be easily recycled)

• Solidified paints

• Furnishings and non electrical fittingd

• Uncontaminated soil

• Cardboard and plastic packaging items

• Metal

• Branches and leaves

• Bricks, wood and rubble

It is advisable to ask your skip hire company what you can put in the skip and what you’re not allowed to put in the skip before moving forward. The guidelines can vary from a company to the other and as a result, there is the need to conduct a proper consultation with a skip hire company to help erase or confirm the fears you might have about your unwanted waste or rubbish. This is to ensure the company selected perfectly matches your proper waste disposal needs. When you’re able to select a reliable skip hire company, all your unwanted waste disposal worries would be completely obliterated. Click here to learn more about skips.

How big is a 4 yard skip?

Generally, 4-yard skips are basically designed for small clean or clear out projects or residential use. If you want to carry out a small renovation task or to clear out your home, you simply can not ignore the disposal of your unwanted waste. You’ll save yourself some time, money and potential accidents by hiring a 4-yard skip that will do the job effectively. We are all aware how time consuming it is making several trips to the local waste disposal centre.

When talking about the size of a 4-yard skip, it runs beyond its capacity. Skips of small sizes can be easily accommodated in not too large spaces which can be in the garden or driveway which saves you the stress and money of having to acquire skip hire permits.

If you’d like to know the the size of a 4 yard skip in metres, we’ve got you fully covered for both imperial and metric! The answer is provided below:

Imperial - Width 4’3, Height 3’2

Metric - Width 1.29m, Height 0.972m

It is, however, important to take note that when hiring a skip the measurement might be a bit tricky. The ‘4 yard’ term implies the capacity of the skip and not the length. The actual length of a 4 yard skip is only 6 feet or 2 yards. As a result, before you hire a skip, there’s the need to be clear as to the measurement you’re looking for. Otherwise, you might end up hiring the wrong skip and having to get another. Not good for your pocket, right? Well, that’s why we’ve provided this answer to help you in the best possible way!
