Barnehurst
Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to build the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name originates from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Nowadays, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains per hour during the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the development of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed lots of individuals.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are few shopping or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals often visit surrounding areas employing public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is residence for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
