Looe is a small seaside community, fishing port as well as civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England, with a population of 5,280 at the 2011 census. Looe is 20 miles (32 km) west of Plymouth and 7 miles (11 kilometres) south of Liskeard, divided in two by the River Looe, East Looe and also West Looe being linked by a bridge. Looe developed as two separate towns each with MPs and also its very own mayor. The town centres around a small harbour and also along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which streams in between East as well as West Looe to the sea beside a sandy coastline. Offshore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, exists Looe Island. Looe continues to be a fishing community, and retained several fish dealerships operating from the East Looe quayside until the advent of EU laws. With its fleet of little fishing boats returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a track record for obtaining exceptional fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark angling, as well as is home to the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain. Nevertheless, Looe's major organisation today is tourist, with much of the town given over to resorts, bed and breakfast and also holiday homes, together with a lot of pubs, dining establishments and beach devices, ice cream and Cornish pasty suppliers. Inland from Looe lie several outdoor camping and campers sites, as well as the popular Woolly Monkey Sanctuary. Other neighborhood destinations include the coastlines, sailing, angling and diving, and also incredible coastal strolls (especially via Talland to Polperro). South East Cornwall boasts a number of manor houses, including Antony Home, Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe and Lanhydrock House, as well as the Eden Project near St Austell which visitors can access by road.
