Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. These days, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by means of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains every hour throughout the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains per hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the creation of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed a lot of people.
Along with the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited purchasing or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals normally go to surrounding places using public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is home for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
