Lairg
Lairg is a village and church in Sutherland, Scotland. It has a population of 891 as well as is at the south-eastern end of Loch Shin. Lairg is unusual in the north Highlands, if not distinct, in being a large negotiation that is out the shore. One of the reasons that Lairg is somewhat larger than various other non-coastal Highland villages is its central area within the area of Sutherland. Having four roads which meet in the village, it used to be called "The Crossroads of the North". In the 19th century, it was supplied with a railway station, on what is currently the Far North Line. This growth indicates that the north-west of Sutherland is currently much easier to reach. (The Far North Line links Inverness in the south with Thurso as well as Wick in the north.).
