Commercial roofing may be necessary for numerous reasons, especially if the present roof requires repair or it will be placed on a brand new build.

There are several variables which will play a role in the style and preparing of a new commercial roof top and the cost will all depend upon the size and style you opt for.

Thermoplastic roofing is especially popular. This type of roofing is made from a durable material with high temperature tolerance. The material is a favourite for commercial roofing as it's resistant against ultra violet and chemical substance exposure. The roofing lasts for over two decades, with a great resistance for fire, punctures and high wind loads.

You might also contemplate EPDM roofing. The durability and flexibility of EPDM roofing makes it a popular material in the commercial roofing world. These types of roofing material have the advantage of being simpler to install, maintain and restore too, leading to their popularity.

Bingley

Bingley is a market town in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford situated in West Yorkshire, England. The town lies on the River Aire and also the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is located in Airedale on the south of Ilkley Moor. In recent years, the population has declined, having a population of approximately 19,884 in 2001 and lowering to about 18,000 as recorded in the 2011 Census. The meaning of the town's name is interpreted as 'Bing's Clearing' and finds its origins in Saxon. The town's first settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was constructed in 1986 with the intention of changing the ford. A great deal of the older history of the town remains present within the town, such as the Bingley Grammar School, established during the sixteenth century, which is considered to be 1 of the oldest schools in the country. Bingley boasts an abundance of local shops, a street market, banks and the 'Little Theatre'. There are also effective transportation links available, with a railway station in the town centre and also the Leeds Bradford Airport nearby. Barges on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal travel through the Bingley Five Rise Locks, with guests often viewing barges navigating the locks. Due to its mostly unspoilt habitat, walking and cycling in the town proves popular, and golfers can play at the Bingley St. Ives Golf Club. A yearly music festival, Bingley Music Live, is held at Myrtle Park, providing a range of high quality music attracting a varied audience. For all your property improvements, be sure that you select vetted professionals in Bingley to ensure that you get the very best quality service.

FAQs

What is commercial roofing?

Commercial roofing simply refers to any roofing work, including installation and repair, that is done to commercial buildings. This might include office roofs, shop roofs or commercial unit roofs. Every building needs a roof to keep out the rain!

Since looks aren’t usually the first priority with commercial buildings, lots of commercial properties have flat roofs. These are often made from felt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass. Felt is the cheapest commercial roofing material, while fibreglass tends to be the most expensive. In felt roofs, roofers use an adhesive to stick roofing felt onto a frame. EDPM rubber roofs have a rubber membrane that is laid down and glued onto the roof and coated with a contact adhesive, while fibreglass uses a cut glass fibre mat that is pressed on before a resin and topcoat are applied.

Not all roofing companies will offer commercial roofing services, because generally the buildings tend to be bigger. Small companies won’t have enough tradespeople to work on a roof without making it very expensive for you. Commercial buildings also tend to need more scaffolding to make it safe for the professionals to work, so some smaller roofing companies won’t offer commercial services. Make sure you check a company’s website or social media if you’re looking for commercial roofing – on the Quotatis Directory, our roofers will show whether they do commercial roofing to make your search easier.

How to find a commercial roofer near me?

To find a commercial roofer near you, you could ask other tenants or property owners whether they can recommend a company. If you choose a company that’s been recommended to you, make sure you do your own research into them before you decide to engage them; you can check whether they have social media pages, reviews and examples of previous work. If the company has a Quotatis profile, you’ll find genuine reviews from their customers there, including photos of work they’ve completed.

Another option is to do your own search online. These days lots of companies will have their own website and you may be able to make an enquiry through there without even having to call them. Again, you should always check out their qualifications, previous work and reviews before deciding to go with them.

Or, you could let Quotatis do the work for you. Simply tell us about your commercial roofing project and where the property is and we’ll put you in touch with up to 4 reputable commercial roofers that will be able to offer you a free, no-obligation quote. You can check out their reviews, qualifications, insurance and photos of work on their profile which we’ll send to you in an email when we’ve matched you. The roofing companies should contact you first, but if they don’t we’ll give you all their details so you can introduce yourself.

How long does it take to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property?

How long it takes to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property will depend on the size of your roof and how difficult access is. Corrugated iron roofing sheets are much easier to fit than other roofing materials such as clay tiles or EDPM rubber, so that will work in your favour.

The size of the team of the roofing company you engage will also make a difference. If they have a lot of tradespeople working on your roof with lots of experience, it will take less time, while if there are only a couple of people it will take longer.

Another thing to bear in mind when considering how long it will take to fix a roofing sheet is the weather. If it starts to rain, the contractors will probably have to stop and wait, as the roof will be too slippery to work on.

In general, it should take between 1 and 3 days to fit roofing sheets on a commercial property. If you’re not having a full roof replacement, it may only take one day, whereas a completely new metal roof could take up to 3 days.

How much does it cost to replace a commercial roof?
How much it costs to replace a commercial roof depends on the type of roof you have and the size of your commercial property. Lots of commercial buildings have flat roofs, which are often made from felt, asphalt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass, while others are pitched roofs that might be made from tiles, shingle or metal. It’s likely that your commercial roof will need replacing if it’s more than 25 years old. A roofer can carry out an inspection to determine what, if any, work is needed, but there’s a high chance that you’ll need a roof replacement if it’s that old. If your flashing is looking worse for wear or you’re missing a number of tiles or shingles, it might be time to replace your commercial roof. So how much does it cost to replace a commercial roof? If your commercial roof is pitched, expect to spend between £4,500 and £7,500. It all depends on how large your property is and how easy access is, as the more scaffolding you need, the more it will cost. If your commercial property has a flat roof, the average cost would be approximately £4,500. Again, it all depends on the material, access and how large the roof is. Felt costs between £40-70 per square metre, while fibreglass costs between £80-110. Whatever type of commercial roof you have or what it’s made from, make sure you get a few quotes from reputable roofing companies so you know that the job will be done well.
