Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, through Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains an hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed many people.
Along with the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many buying or leisure opportunities within the town, so people generally visit surrounding areas employing public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is house towards the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
