Prestonpans is a little angling town eastern of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the unitary council location of East Lothian. Since the 2001 census recorded the population as 7,153, brand-new residences have drawn numerous brand-new homeowners. It is the site of the Battle of Prestonpans, dealt with in 1745, and also has history dating from the l lth century. The community's crucial historic design includes Preston Tower and the doocot as well as the regional Mercat Cross, which is the only one of its kind in Scotland which stays in its original form and also area. Prestonpans is "Scotland's Mural Town", with lots of murals illustrating local history. In 2006, Prestonpans and the neighbouring communities of Cockenzie, Port Seton as well as Longniddry were twinned with the community of Barga, Tuscany, Italy. In 2010, the Prestonpans Tapestry was completed and also has been touring Scotland and England. In October 2011, Prestonpans was awarded Fairtrade Town status.
