Boldon Colliery
The Boldons are a group of 3 tiny villages in the north eastern of England - East Boldon, West Boldon and also Boldon Colliery - north of Sunderland, east of Newcastle as well as southern of South Shields and also Jarrow. They have a population of 13,271. Existing within the historic borders of County Durham, the towns are first recorded in print in 1170. Their names advanced from words "Bold" or "Botl", implying a building, and "dun", meaning a hillside. In 1866, job started sinking a pit that began generating coal in 1869, and was then referred to as Boldon New Winning. The town that developed nearby in the 1870s came to be known as Boldon Colliery. When the mine was deepened and extended in the 1910s, more housing to suit the labor force was developed to the south of the pit in an area referred to as Boldon New Town. Up until 1974 the area was carried out as an urban district of County Durham, but since then has become part of the district of South Tyneside. In 1976, the Boldon Colliery Band showed up in episode 13 of the tv collection When the Boat Comes In. The mine enclosed 1982 but more work appeared when an Asda grocery store opened up in 1987. Current developments consist of Boldon Business Park. Boldon Colliery also has its very own multi-screen movie theater operated by Cineworld. The main senior high school in the location is Boldon School, a professional sports university.
