Tayport, likewise known as Ferry-Port on Craig, is a town and also burgh, and also parish, in the region of Fife, Scotland, serving as a commuter town for Dundee. The adage of the Burgh is Te oportet alte ferri ("It is incumbent on you to bring on your own high"), a pun on Tayport at auld Tay Ferry. Tayport lies close to the north eastern tip of Fife. To the north it looks throughout the River Tay to Broughty Ferry and also Broughty Castle. To the east is the large Tentsmuir Nature Reserve, an area of forested dunes determining some 3 km from eastern to west and also 6 kilometres from north to southern as well as bordered by large sands that proceed completely round to the mouth of the River Eden. The civil parish of Ferry-Port on Craig has a population of 3,815 (in 2011).
