Highbridge is a tiny, former market community positioned on the edge of the Somerset Levels near the mouth of the River Brue. It remains in the County of Somerset, and also is approximately 20 miles (32.2 km) north east of Taunton, the county town of Somerset. It is no longer a market town, the market website is now a housing estate. Highbridge remains in the Area of Sedgemoor, being located approximately 7 miles (11.3 km) north of Bridgwater, the district's administrative centre. Highbridge very closely neighbours Burnham-on-Sea, creating part of the combined parish of Burnham-on-Sea as well as Highbridge as well as shares a town council with the resort community. In the 2001 census the population was 5,986. In the 2011 census the population of the community was consisted of in the ward of Highbridge and also Burnham Marine, which completed 7,555.
