East Cowes
East Cowes is a community and also civil parish to the north of the Isle of Wight, on the eastern bank of the River Medina beside its neighbour on the west bank, Cowes. Both communities are linked by the Cowes Drifting Bridge, a chain ferry run by the Isle of Wight Council. East Cowes is the site of Norris Castle, and also Osborne House, the previous summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Prince had a significant impact on the architecture of the area, as an example on the building of St Mildred's Church in nearby Whippingham, which features unique turrets copying those discovered on a German castle.
