You may devote more time to getting ready to paint than actually painting. It's essential to clean and prepare all wall surfaces and ceilings before painting, and to mask off any regions which should not be painted over such as skirting, architrave, electrical sockets and light switches. Cover furniture as well as carpets or flooring in the room with dust sheets to protect against any stains. If you are painting inside, apply a primer coat as a base layer and then multiple layers of paint, leaving each layer time to dry in between.
