Saxmundham
Saxmundham is a little market community in Suffolk, England, embeded in the valley of the River Fromus regarding 18 miles (29 kilometres) north-east of Ipswich and 5 miles (8.0 km) west of the coastline at Sizewell. The town is bypassed by the A12. It is served by Saxmundham railway station on the East Suffolk Line. Saxmundham Town Council comes under the new East Suffolk District. It was formerly in Suffolk Coastal District. The area electoral ward likewise has the name Saxmundham. Its population at the 2011 census was 4,913. The town's name presumably stems from the Old English "Seizmond's Residence". The earliest recorded mention of Saxmundham is in the Domesday Book of 1086 which discusses 3 churches. It has had a market charter since a minimum of 1272 and continues the custom to now.
