Leatherhead
Leatherhead is a town in Surrey, England on the right edge of the river Mole, and beside the adjoining built-up area of London. The town covers a total area of around 4.84 square miles. Its regional district is Mole Valley. Records exist of the area from Anglo Saxon England. Just north-east of the midpoint of Surrey and at a junction of ancient north-- south and east-- west roads, features of the town have actually been a focus for transport throughout its history. A key early spur to this was the construction of the bridge over the seasonally navigable River Mole in the early medieval time period. Later On the Swan Hotel supplied 300 years of service to horse-drawn coaches. In the late 20th century the M25 motorway was established close by. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11316 people. The town has re-developed occasionally through changing monetary needs and planning. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mole Valley District Council made plans to modernise the town, with a new pedestrianised high street and a sizeable one-way system. It has a combined theatre and movie theatre. Leatherhead's numerous business areas generate lunchtime demand and its eateries and theatre draw in people from around Surrey. The undulating streetscape lends itself more to warm summer evenings. The theatre (see below) is a movie theatre and also has art exhibits. The bypass streets to the town centre close and feature yearly in the London-Surrey cycle classic which is ranked by the world's cycling federation.
