Eyemouth
Eyemouth is a small town and civil parish in Berwickshire, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. It is 2 miles (3.2 km) eastern of the major north-south A1 road and simply 8 miles (13 km) north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. It has a population of about 3,420 individuals (2004 ). The community's name originates from its place at the mouth of the Eye Water. The Berwickshire coastline contains high cliffs over deep clear water with sandy coves and stunning harbours. An angling port, Eyemouth holds a yearly Herring Queen Festival. Noteworthy structures in the town consist of Gunsgreen House as well as a cemetery watch-house developed to stand guard against the Resurrectionists (body snatchers). A number of the features of a standard fishing town are preserved in the narrow streets as well as 'vennels', giving shelter from the sea and also well-suited to the contraband tradition of old. Eyemouth is not far from the tiny villages of Ayton, Reston, St. Abbs, Coldingham as well as Burnmouth. The coast provides possibilities for birdwatching, walking, angling and also diving. Accommodation consists of several hotels, B&B s and also a vacation park. The geology of the area shows evidence of folding that led James Hutton to announce that the surface of the planet had altered dramatically over the ages.
