Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is positioned at the head of Windermere, England's biggest natural lake. The town is within the Lake District National Park. Ambleside is provided by South Lakeland District Council as well as forms part of the Lakes civil church yet from 1894 to 1935 it was a separate city area council. Ferryboats (still called "steamers", although currently diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside using great sights of the lake and surrounding hills. Ambleside is a base for hiking, mountaineering and hill biking. It has a number of hotels, guest houses, clubs and also restaurants as well as shops. Particularly, there are a variety of shops offering devices for pedestrians and also climbers in the community. Ambleside is a preferred starting point for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge hike. Ambleside is likewise house to the head office of Brathay Exploration Group, a youth charity based just beyond Clappersgate when driving to Hawkshead. The cd CSI: Ambleside, by Birkenhead-based band Half Man Half Biscuit, is called after the community.
