Largs

Largs is a town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire in Scotland. It is situated approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Glasgow. The original name means "the slopes" (An Leargaidh) in Scottish Gaelic. The town markets itself on its historic links with the Vikings and an annual celebration is held in early September. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11241. Largs evolved from the estates of North Cunninghame over which the Montgomeries of Skelmorlie emerged as temporal lords in the 17th century. Sir Robert Montgomerie built Skelmorlie Aisle in the ancient kirk of Largs in 1636 as a family mausoleum. Today, the monolith is all that remains of the old kirk. From its roots as a modest village around its kirk, Largs became a bustling and popular seaside resort in the 19th century. Large hotels were constructed and the pier was completed in 1834. It was not till 1895, nevertheless, that the train made the link to Largs, which consolidated the town's appeal. It also came to be a popular area to live, and a number of impressive mansions were built. The most considerable of which includes 'Netherhall', the home of William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, the physicist and engineer. Regardless of its reduced status as a vacation resort, much of Largs is still focused towards tourism. There is the award winning Vikingar Centre at Barrfields, an interactive glance into the history of Viking life; Kelburn Country Centre, Barrfields Pavilion Theatre, Largs Swimming Swimming Pool, Douglas Park and Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre. It is best known for 'Nardinis', the famous ice cream parlour, cafe and eatery, that dominates the Esplanade and which reopened in late 2008. For all your home refurbishments, make sure to identify dependable contractors in Largs to make certain of quality.

FAQs

What’s LPG?

LPG stands for liquid petroleum gas. It’s a by-product of refined crude oil. When it’s put under pressure, LPG turns into a liquid. It’s usually stored in this form. LPG is used as fuel for things like BBQs and camping stoves, as well as central heating.

Where can I put an LPG storage tank?

Your LPG storage tank will need to go outside your property, possibly underground if you have limited space. There are planning rules that restrict where you can put your tank, especially if your property is listed or on designated land. Take a look at our planning permission article to find out more.

How do I know when I need more fuel delivering for my LPG boiler?

Your LPG storage tank should have a gauge that shows you how much fuel it has in it. Most LPG suppliers suggest that you arrange a fuel delivery when the level in your tank gets down to about 20%. Make regular checks, particularly in the winter when you will use more, so you know when levels are low.

How do I get fuel for my LPG boiler?

If you choose to install an LPG boiler, you’ll need to find an LPG supplier. They’ll deliver fuel to you every time your storage tank runs low. You can even rent a storage tank from them if you don’t want to buy one. Make sure you know who your local suppliers are and where they are based.
