Nethy Bridge

Nethy Bridge is a tiny village in Strathspey in the Highland council area of Scotland. The village lies within the historical parish of Abernethy as well as Kincardine, as well as the Cairngorms National Park. Typically passionately described just as "Nethy" the town has, because Victorian times been a visitor destination kept in mind for its peaceful and remote place beside the Abernethy Forest. It is in the heart of Strathspey in the Highlands of Scotland, between Aviemore and also Grantown, and also is within the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park which was established in 2003. A main sector of Nethy Bridge was forestry, with at one time a number of sawmills in the location, however this has long since subsided and also currently much of the revenue is originated from tourist. The name is originated from the River Nethy, a tributary of the close-by Spey, which runs through the village, and the arched bridge which was constructed in 1810, to a classic Telford design, and remains in the heart of the town. It had to be fixed after the Moray flood of August 1829, when part of it was removed. In total, there are four Telford bridges in Nethy. Originally called Abernethy (Scottish Gaelic: Obar Neithich), Nethy Bridge was relabelled when the trains came this far north in the 1860s. The Great North of Scotland Railway already had a village called Abernethy on its line further southern, so renamed this Nethy Bridge to differentiate the two. The placename Abernethy is still often used around below: Abernethy Highland Games, Abernethy Forest, Abernethy Primary School etc. In 2011 the population of Nethy Bridge was 640. Nethy Bridge was one of the initial areas in the area to develop a traveler association internet site. A huge part of the internet site is to record all residential properties with their individual history, as well as several village "elders" have actually been employed to research study and record the realities.

FAQs

how disruptive is a loft conversion?

Asides the questions relating to planning permission of a loft conversion as well as the total cost of completing a loft conversion project, this is perhaps the most common question on the loft conversion subject matter. Before making an investment decision, many homeowners will want to know just how disruptive a loft conversion is. Well, we’ve all heard the several horror stories when loft conversion builder with dirty boots tramples all over the fresh and just-acquired shag pile or the noise of the construction loud enough to annoy neighbours from four blocks away or an obvious shortage of teabags, sugar and lots more. Good news is, the disruption of loft conversion is not as bad as people make out. Let’s have a look at how it works!

Just like all other major building projects, a loft conversion is disruptive to your property. However, no two loft conversions are the same, therefore some are certain to be more drastic and invasive than others. In the long run, the project is worth the stress and inconveniences caused and in most cases, it’s usually a very good investment.

Normally, an average loft conversion is expected to last for about 9 to 12 weeks (depending on the complexity of the loft conversion project some might take longer). Some of the factors that affects the duration of a project includes the type of the loft, the design of the loft as well as the style of the property.

Generally, a loft conversion is a lot less disruptive than say completely moving a home. It all has to do with how you’re able to deal with it as a person. And besides, the effect it’s going to have to a large extent depends on the company you hire. A good company will always look to ensure to keep disruptions to a minimal when carrying out the loft conversion project.

What kinds of loft conversion are there?

There’s a huge range of different types of loft conversions. The most common are dormer and skylight or Velux conversions. There are also hip to gable and mansard conversions. The type of loft conversion that’s most suitable for your property will depend on the style of roof and the size of your loft.

how much value does a loft conversion add?

When its impossible to build out and create more space sideways, why can’t you look upwards? As more and more homeowners in the UK are carrying out their loft conversion project, one question that keeps popping up is the amount of value the loft conversion can add to their homes. However, this is a question that is impossible to provide a single and precise answer to. This is because the value that’ll be generated by a loft conversion is largely dependent on a wide range of influencing factors. To give you a vague idea of the loft conversion value to a property, we’ve put forward a research carried out by industry experts so you can know what you’re in for.

Nationwide carried out a research which shows clearly that a loft conversion including an additional bedroom as part of the building plan will increase a house’s value by up to 21 percent. Since the number of rooms a house has is one of the main metrics for house valuations, loft conversion comes in pretty handy as it’s a great and easy way to convert your house from a 4 bedroom house to a 5 bedroom house prior to sale.

Apart from the financial value aspect, loft conversion also adds more value to your lifestyle which is very unlike nearly other financial investments you can make. More space in your house automatically means more storage or a new room as you wish. A new room can be for a growing family or probably to serve as a guest room. It can also be used as a study space or even an office especially with the rapidly growing rate of people working from home. With loft conversion, the possibilities in terms of value are simply endless!

Will I need planning permission to convert my loft?

Planning permission is not normally needed for a loft conversion as they are covered by permitted development rights. A conversion company will tell you if you do and help you with this. For more information, see our article about planning permission.
