Attleborough is a market town and civil parish between Norwich and Thetford in Norfolk, England. The parish is in the district of Breckland and has an area of 21.9 square kilometres (8.5 square miles). Attleborough is within the Mid-Norfolk constituency of the UK Parliament. Attleborough railway station provides a main line rail service to both Norwich and Cambridge. The 2001 Census recorded the town as having a permanent resident population of 9702 distributed between 4185 households. It grew to a population of 10482 in 4481 households in the 2011 Census. The very first turnpike road in England is reported to have been developed here at the end of the 17th century. The 1920s saw continuing development as a market centre, held on a Thursday, the stalls spread across the pavements of Church Street and in an open area by the Angel Hotel opposite the Griffin Inn. It was the turkey sales which made the town a bustling market centre in the 1930s, and thousands were sold each year on Michaelmas Day. Local employment still mostly revolved around the Gaymer's cider works, established in the late 19th century. A great deal of the town's development occurred in the 1960s. The overspill programme and new town improvement brought new families into south Norfolk. Attleborough had to make decisions for the future and new development zones were designated. The initial estate programme began with the building of the council-owned Cyprus Estate which has since been added to by other private housing schemes, including Fairfields and Ollands built primarily during the 1970s in addition to a substantial estate on the south side of the town in the 1990s. FAQs

how much does a small lean to conservatory cost?

No matter how small or little your lean to conservatory is, the benefits that can be derived from it remains immense. Not only does it add to the value of your home by making it more attractive to potential buyers and securing you a long term investment, but it can also serve as a relaxation or hang out spot with family and friends. In fact, with the lean to conservatory’s simplistic design, it happens to be an economical way to extend your home and also to maximize your living space. If you’re considering to build a small lean to conservatory on your property, then you’d probably want to know exactly how much this is going to cost. In this post, we’re going to look at the price involved in constructing a small lean to conservatory.

When it comes to building a lean to conservatory, there are a bunch of factors that’ll play a key role in the final cost of the project. For example, you’d have to make a decision on the glazing options, roof type, size and more. All these factors will have a huge impact on the final cost you’re going to incur to complete the project. For instance, a polycarbonate roof material lean to conservatory with a size of 3500mm x 2000mm will cost within a range of £7000 to about £8000, while a glass roof material lean to conservatory of the same size will cost within the range of £7500 to about £8500. In order to get a more accurate cost estimate for your small lean to conservatory project, there’s the need to call in a professional to discuss your specific requirements as well as budget.

do you need foundations for a lean to conservatory?

The short and simple answer to this question is yes, just like other new extensions, you must have a foundation done for your lean to conservatory. In order to transfer the building’s weight to the floor safely, there’s a need to construct a foundation. Without it, the structural integrity of the extension would be heavily compromised. What’s more? While there’s no minimum depth requirement for a lean to conservatory, there are multiple factors that can affect the depth as well as type of the foundation. Let’s take a look!

  • The nearby trees. What trees do is to absorb water from the soil which can affect the foundation significantly. When water is absorbed from the soil, the soil shrinks which affects the foundation’s strength. The size as well as type of the tree will determine the extent of the water absorption from the ground.
  • The soil’s suitability. The weight that each soil can withstand varies and even more so, when environmental factors have more effect on certain types of soils than others. For instance, chalk is able to drain water away relatively easily which means that nearby trees will only have a little effect on its quality. Clay, on the other hand, shrinks when drying and also retains a lot of water. This means that nearby trees will have huge impact on clay soil which will compromise the structural integrity of the lean to conservatory. Therefore, since changes to clay mostly occur to about 0.75m depth, foundations on the soil should be constructed deeper to compensate.
  • Undisturbed ground. Before the foundations are laid, there’s a need to identify grounds that hasn’t been built on and this usually takes a depth of about 1m (this figure may vary especially in regions where drains have been laid).
