What Does a Grass Treatment Option Involve?

There are a variety of lawn treatment options readily available on the market to aid with a wide range of issues.

Prior to any professional treatment option starts, your turf specialist will visit the residential or commercial property and also analyse the lawn state to enable them to advise the most proper treatments. The evaluation may include soil samples, establishing one of the most prominent turf kind, the grass thickness as well as colouration of your lawn.

Relying on the type of treatment options required, the method of application varies.

Some treatments options, such as grass feed as well as fungicides are splashed onto lawns, taking care to cover damaged and also wanted areas. After these treatment options have been applied its recommended that lawn isn't sprinkled later on, ideally for a couple of days, to allow the products to penetrate the lawn.

  1. Scarification and also oygenation are hands-on work, entailing literally steering specialist tools across the lawn to break up as well as eliminate thatch that hampers turf growth. Some clean-up may be required later on to get rid of unwanted thatch and also soil plugs.
  2. Topdressing is also a manual process, layering an organic combination of composted products throughout the grass to add nutrients, followed by brushing or raking right into the ground to make sure infiltration.
  3. Nematodes are likewise used through a splashing procedure, yet as they are living organisms, many experts recommend watering the lawn prior to their application so that there is enough moisture in the soil for them to pass through the ground as well as grow.
  4. Overseeding - To prepare a lawn for overseeding, it's advised that the location is either raked before application if there is little thatch, or scarification might be needed for even more overlooked grass-- This will enable the lawn seeds higher contact with the soil, permitting more effective germination. Once the grass prepares, overseeding does not need machinery; rather, the items can be hand sown right into the desired areas.

How Much Do Lawn Treatment Options Cost in Arundel?

There are a number of options readily available for grass that can help improve their appearance, health and wellness and also durability depending upon your demands-- A few of which are suitable for home do it yourself application, and others that will require a qualified expert to finish.

Usually, standard turf treatments options costs beginning at around £130 for fundamental work with a tiny (50m2) grass, as much as around £200 for even more labour-intensive as well as time-consuming services in bigger lawn areas, but bear in mind that the cost of turf treatments options are affected by a few variables, such as the intensity of the issue being resolved, your place within the UK, the dimension of the turf being dealt with as well as that will be offering the treatment solution.

Typical lawn troubles

Sadly, grass problems are not unusual as well as numerous home owners battle to salvage a functional turf in spite of routine mowing. Below is a listing of one of the most typical turf problems:

  • Infrequent mowing: inappropriate mowing can create severe turf damages. The optimal height for lawn is 2.5 centimeters and if you go below this you take the chance of the grass dying as well as blistering from the sunlight. If you do not feel confident trimming your grass it is feasible to work with a professional. For more details see our overview to grass cutting costs.
  • Unwanted weeds on lawn: Surprisingly, some weeds can be fairly eye-catching however despite their appearance, they require to be removed before your turf endures. They need nutrients and also water to expand as well as obtain these by stealing from your lawn, triggering damages to your grass. Weeds are really common however with the correct treatments options they can be a thing of the past.
  • Pests: Frustratingly, grass parasites can be extremely typical as well as trigger damage to your turf if left neglected. Typical parasites consist of natural leather coats, ants, moles, worms as well as chafer grubs.
  • Moss: Moss is extremely typical, generally shows up when lawns are mown too short and also loves sheltered, moist areas. Can be successfully eliminated with raking.
  • Lawn disease: There are lots of types of grass illness that not just influence the appearance of lawns but can trigger damages to the origins and also the blades of turf themselves. Typical kinds include fairy rings (a fungal illness), fallen leave affliction and also corrosion disease.
  • Dry areas: During summer months when warmer weather is common, turfs can dry causing patches of discoloured, passing away lawn. Regular watering is a must especially when there has been no rainfall for some time.
  • Fungus: Although you might not desire mushrooms growing in your garden, they are actually a clear sign of a all-natural, healthy lawn. The disadvantage to mushrooms is that they can be poisonous to humans as well as animals therefore choosing or mowing to remove them is a great suggestion, especially if you have young kids and pet dogs.

FAQs

How do I get rid of moss, mushrooms and weeds in my lawn?

Moss, mushrooms and weeds are all problems that many homeowners face on their lawns. Luckily, with a bit of maintenance, there are ways you can get rid of these unwanted organisms and prevent them from coming back. Getting rid of moss A simple way to remove moss from your lawn is by scarification. This basically means that you vigorously rake your lawn, but only do this in the autumn when the grass is actively growing and it’s not too hot, cold or dry. However, you can also use specific weedkillers to control moss on your lawn, and most of these should be applied when the moss is actively growing. Apply in fine weather by hand or with a push-along spreader, making sure not to apply too much as you could kill off the grass too. Check the instructions, as some will require watering after 48 hours if it’s not rained. Then, get into a scarification routine to help prevent moss growth. Removing mushrooms from your lawn If you’ve got mushrooms in your lawn, it usually means that your lawn is damp and shaded, so it never dries out, and is organic waste-rich. There could be a drainage problem with your lawn that is encouraging mushroom growth, so it’s important to investigate why the mushrooms are growing to prevent them from returning once you’ve removed them. To get rid of mushrooms in your lawn, make sure you scarify your lawn and get rid of all the moss, thatch and dead grass that comes up. If you leave it, this is heaven for mushrooms to grow in. If your lawn is shaded, try to prune and thin surrounding trees to offer it more light. If you do all of these things, it will prevent mushrooms from growing in the future, and then it might be worth using a fungicide to get rid of the mushrooms that are there. But if you just do this step, it’s likely the mushrooms will just come back. How to get rid of weeds To get rid of weeds from your lawn, you can use selective weedkillers that will just kill the weeds and leave your grass alone. But if you’d rather not use weedkiller, you can get rid of weeds from your lawn manually. For large, deep-rooted weeds like dandelions or plantains, use a trowel to lever them out, ensuring that you get the whole plant including its roots. Then use compost to fill the hole it leaves behind, pushing it deeply into the hole. Sprinkle with fresh grass seed, cover with extra compost and water. Make sure you keep the area damp until the seed has germinated. To prevent moss, mushrooms or weeds from returning, the best things to do are:

  • Scarify your lawn in the autumn, and lightly in the spring if necessary
  • Seed your lawn in the autumn if you need to
  • Try to keep trees trimmed and pruned as much as possible to reduce shade
  • Use a pre-emergent weedkiller in the spring to catch them before they grow and handpick any that come through
  • Mow your lawn regularly in the spring and summer, being careful not to remove more than a third of grass at a time, then before winter give it one last mow and a fertilisation treatment

When should I scarify my lawn?

Scarification is the name given to the process where you remove excess thatch and moss from your lawn to encourage it to grow and look healthy. Although it sounds difficult, it’s actually pretty easy – simply grab a sturdy rake and apply moderate pressure to rake out moss, thatch and dead grass. Then collect it up and add to your compost heap if you have one. You can also use a petrol or electric rake, but you just want to tease out the moss and thatch. Don’t be tempted to go deep into the grass, as this could damage your lawn. So when should you scarify your lawn? The experts say that the best time is in the autumn, when the grass is actively growing and it’s not too hot, cold or dry. Most of summer’s weed seeds will have gone, so you won’t encourage weeds to grow in the raked-up soil. This soil also makes an ideal seed bed for over seeding with new grass seed, so that’s why you don’t want to get weeds in there as well. However, you may also carry out light scarification in the spring – usually around April. Make sure you don’t go too far though – as you will end up with a rather disfigured lawn if you scarify too heavily and the dryness of summer stops the lawn from recovering. It’s also best to scarify your lawn in the spring if the following apply:

  • If you couldn’t do it the previous autumn – if you keep putting it off, you might end up with extreme moss and weed growth
  • If your lawn is shaded – these areas will thin over winter and start to thicken from spring onwards, so if you scarify in the autumn you’ll make your lawn even thinner.
  • If your lawn is under trees – pair the shade from the trees with the fall of leaves in the autumn and your grass won’t be healthy, but in the spring the trees are bare, allowing lots of light onto your lawn to help it grow.
how to get rid of mushrooms in lawn?

When it comes to landscaping issues, lawn mushrooms are a very common occurrence. If you’re one of the several home and property owners who simply loves to have a great looking grass, finding mushrooms in your lawn can be a truly frustrating experience. However, with the right skills and knowledge the problem of mushroom growing in lawns can be resolved. If you don’t have the confidence required to carry out this task, then we’d recommend you call in a professional landscaper for help in order to avoid costly errors and unnecessary expenses. In this post, we’re going to put you through the processes involved in lawn mushroom removal.

First and foremost, let’s consider why mushrooms grow on lawns. To determine why mushrooms are growing on your lawn, simply examine the state of your lawn. Lawn mushrooms thrive in damp, shaded and organic waste rich environments. Figure out if you have drainage problems with supports the mushroom challenge, organic waste to be removed or perhaps you have areas on your yard that happens to be very shady.

In order to get rid of mushroom in your lawn, you’ll have to resolve your yard problems. If your lawn is very wet, try to find out if there are things you can do to minimize the moisture. You can reduce the decaying organic materials in your yard by raking your grass clippings, replacing existing mulch or detaching your lawn. If your yard happens to be quite shady, check if some targeted pruning can help to enable the access of more light to your yard. Also, you can apply a fungicide to eliminate the existing lawn mushrooms.

How to overseed a lawn?

Overseeding your lawn is an essential part of keeping your lawn looking its best. It’s also known as reseeding, and helps to repair damaged areas that might have been caused by a harsh summer or winter. It’s best to overseed your lawn during the spring or autumn, when the temperature is mild but there’s still a fair amount of rainy days to help the grass seed grow. To prepare your lawn for overseeding, you should do the following things around 1-2 weeks beforehand:

  • Weed the lawn by hand or using a weedkiller (make sure you leave enough time to do this according to the instructions)
  • Remove stones and large twigs
  • Scarify your lawn to remove moss and loosen soil
  • Fertilise the soil with a quick-release fertiliser

Once you’ve taken these steps, you’re ready to start overseeding your lawn.

  1. Mow your lawn to around 25mm in length.
  2. Water the soil so it’s moist but not too damp.
  3. Sprinkle your new grass seed evenly over the lawn, but apply more in patchy or thin areas. Generally gardeners say to use 35g per square metre, but up to 50g on thin areas.

When you’re finished, give your lawn a final water, and do this every day until the new grass is established – particularly if it’s not rained. Just make sure you don’t overwater it. It’s also a good idea not to walk on your lawn for around 2-3 weeks after you’ve overseeded it.
