Wick
Wick is a town and royal burgh in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland. The community straddles the River Wick as well as extends along both sides of Wick Bay. Wick Area had a population of 6,954 at the time of the 2011 census, a decrease of 3.8% from 2001. Pulteneytown, which was developed on the south side of the river by the British Fisheries Society throughout the 19th century, was formally merged into the burgh in 1902. The town is on the main road (the A99-- A9 road) connecting John o' Groats with southerly Britain. The Far North train line links Wick train station with southerly Scotland and with Thurso, the other burgh of Caithness. Wick Flight terminal is on Wick's north outskirts. The airport terminal has 2 usable paths. A third is derelict. The main offices of The John O'Groat Journal as well as The Caithness Carrier are located in Wick, as are Caithness General Hospital (run by NHS Highland), the Wick Carnegie Collection as well as regional offices of the Highland Council. Wick Constable Court is among 16 sheriff courts serving the sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland as well as Islands.
