Torpoint

Torpoint is a civil parish as well as town on the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated opposite the city of Plymouth throughout the Hamoaze which is the tidal tidewater of the River Tamar. Torpoint had a population of 8,457 at the 2001 census, lowering to 8,364 at the 2011 census. Two selecting wards also exist (Torpoint East as well as West). Their consolidated populations at the same census were 7,717. In the Cornish language Torpoint is called Penntorr (regional people band Pentorr have actually taken their name from this). Torpoint is connected to Plymouth (and also Devonport) by the Torpoint Ferry. The three vessels that run the solution are chain ferryboats-- that is, they are moved throughout the river by drawing themselves on fixed chains which lie across the bed of the river. The trip takes about seven mins.
