Guisborough
Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley region of the North East of England. Chiefly for ritualistic purposes, it remains in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, alongside on Tuesdays with the attendance of a couple of stalls, Guisborough market has had a standout place in the history of the town. At the outset selling largely cattle and animals, the market progressively changed into a more regular market for such products as fruit and vegetables, clothes and flower stalls. It is held from the early morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the primary shopping street. Thanks to its spot close to the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the success of the Industrial Revolution. According to the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777. Considerable residential development came about through the 1960s and 1970s with the development of the chemical industry at Wilton and the steel industry at Redcar. With no large employers in the town, the town has come to be a commuter town for Middlesbrough, with numerous residents operating in the chemical plants scattered around Teeside. Guisborough has a King George's Field in memory of King George V, and the town's football team, Guisborough Town F.C., plays on the King George V Ground. There is also a playing field containing a play area and a skate park, and a swimming pool from has been situated in the park ever since 1968.
