Tain is a royal burgh and parish in the Region of Ross, in the Highlands of Scotland. The name stems from the nearby River Tain, the name of which originates from an Indo-European origin definition 'circulation'. The Gaelic name, Baile Dubhthaich, implies 'Duthac's community', after a neighborhood saint also known as Duthus.
