Pevensey
Pevensey is a village and civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The main village lies 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Eastbourne, one mile (1.6 kilometres) inland from Pevensey Bay. The negotiation of Pevensey Bay develops part of the parish. It was right here that William the Conqueror made the touchdown in his intrusion of England in 1066 after crossing the English Channel from Normandy, France. In 1207 the community was granted a royal charter by King John and also was governed by Pevensey Corporation. With the decrease in the community's significance by the 19th century, the Corporation was at some point liquified in 1886 and also the town shed its district standing. The documents of the Corporation are held in the East Sussex Record Office at Lewes, and a volunteer body, the Pevensey Town Trust, was created to handle the residential or commercial property which had previously belonged to the Corporation, most notably the Old Court House. Pevensey is currently a town, with a church council consisting of twelve chosen councillors. Three councillors are chosen to the Wealden Area Council to represent Pevensey; the Member of Parliament is Hugh Merriman, that stands for the Bexhill and Battle Constituency, of which Pevensey is component. Pevensey is also part of the electoral ward called Pevensey and also Westham. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 9,467.
