Peacehaven

Peacehaven is a town and civil parish in the Lewes district of East Sussex, England. The town covers a total area of around 2 square miles. It is located above the chalk cliffs of the South Downs around 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Brighton city centre, on the A259 road. The pebble beach beneath the cliffs can be reached by a stairs and concrete driveway and sea walk. There is a range of green spaces along the A259 and the cliffs, one of which is called The Dell. A movie theatre previously stood on this site, and now it holds activities such as car boot sales, fireworks, fairgrounds, motorhome expositions, the Donkey Derby and an annual carnival, however in 2005 the carnival was held on the Joff field set behind the Meridian shopping centre. In the 1950s, the carnival stalls were located on the then abandoned land on the NW corner of the South Coast Road (A259) and Dorothy Avenue. Its site coincides with the point where the Greenwich meridian crosses the English south coast. The Greenwich meridian is marked by a 3.5 m (11 ft) tall obelisk, commissioned by Charles Neville. It was unveiled on 10 August 1936 and has actually been shifted twice thanks to wearing down of the cliffs. The parish features part of the Brighton to Newhaven Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest. The cliffs are primarily of geological interest, having many different Santonian and Campanian fossils. The SSSI listing incorporates flora and fauna biological interest too. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent resident population of around 14067 people. For all of your home developments, make certain to identify trustworthy specialists in Peacehaven to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Can I extend the front of my house?

When it comes to extending a home, the rear of the house often comes to mind a lot more than the front. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t extend the front of your house. This can be done either as part of a renovation project whereby the entire house is incorporated or it can also be done in isolation. It’s possible to extend the front of your house without the need to apply for a planning permission, however, there are a bunch of limitations you’d have to comply with if you wish to carry out with such a project. Sometimes, this may imply that extending to the front of your home is more tedious and tasking than extending your home’s rear. So exactly how far can you extend the front of your home without planning permission?

The short and simple answer to this question is 2 metres square area with a height not more than 3 metres. Generally, you do not need a planning permission to build a front porch as long as its area doesn’t go beyond 2 square metres from a public road or walkway. Also, a tiled or slated roof can be as much as 4 metres but other roofs must not go beyond 3 metres in height. If you want to extend the front of your home beyond the restrictions specified, then you’ll have to apply for a planning permission.

Extending the front of home can be quite costly, but this can be controlled by not building to the extension to the highest specification, not including an extension on kitchens or bathrooms and more.

Can an extension add value to my home?

Yes. Most extensions will add substantial value to your home, and you may find that the extension adds more value than it cost. However, it’s important to be sure that the home remains balanced. Extending your garage and leaving your property with no parking spaces, for example, may impact your ability to sell.

Should I use concrete or timber footings?

For 2 metre solid fences it’s recommended to use concrete posts to support each panel. For smaller 1 metre fences or for picket fences with gaps between each timber piece you can use timber posts. A fencing contractor will be able to advise you on the best materials from the length and requirements of a new fence.
