Tillicoultry (population 5,900) is a community in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. Tillicoultry is normally described as Tilly by the citizens. Among the Hillfoots Towns on the A91, which ranges from Stirling to St. Andrews, Tillicoultry is situated at the southern base of the Ochil Hills, which provide a spectacular backdrop. The River Devon exists to the south. The river also goes through neighbouring towns Dollar and Alva to the eastern and also west specifically. The former mining town of Coalsnaughton lies simply southern, whilst Alloa exists 4 mi southwest. The "hill" referred to in the first etymology is likely to be Kirkhill, at the east of the community. The different Latin etymology, Tellus culta, the cultivated land, suggested by Rev. William Osborne, priest of the parish from 1773 to 1794, is also feasible. However, as both etymologies might similarly be applied to a hundred places in Scotland, both are suspicious, as neither define the town in an one-of-a-kind fashion.
