Montacute
Montacute is a little town and also civil parish in Somerset, England, 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) west of Yeovil. The town has a population of 831 (2011 census). The name Montacute is believed by some to derive from the Latin "Mons Acutus", describing the conically intense St Michael's Hill controling the town to the west. An alternative view is that it is called after Drogo de Montagu, whose family members originated from Montaigu-les-Bois, in the arrondissement of Coutances. Mortain held Montacute after 1066, Drogo was a close affiliate. The town is constructed practically totally of the neighborhood hamstone. From the 15th century up until the beginning of the 20th century it developed the heart of the estate of the Phelips household of Montacute House. The village has a great medieval church, as well as was the website of a Cluniac abbey, the gatehouse of which is now an exclusive house. At the centre of the village is a big square known as the 'District' around which are grouped attractive cottages and also a pub, the Phelips Arms; there is a 2nd pub as well as hotel located in the village, called the King's Arms.
