Llanymynech is a town straddling the boundary between Montgomeryshire/Powys, Wales, and Shropshire, England, about 9 miles (14 kilometres) north of the Welsh community of Welshpool. The name is Welsh for "Church of the Monks". The town is on the financial institutions of the river Vyrnwy, and the Montgomery Canal passes through it. The border competes the most part along the frontages of the buildings on the eastern (English) side of the town's main street, with the eastern half of the town in England and also the western half in Wales.
