Abbots Langley is a large village in Hertfordshire in England with a population of 10,472. It is close to Watford and many people work there, and it was part of the Watford Rural District. It is now in the Three Rivers District.
The first record of the village goes back to 1045 and it is listed in the Domesday book, which documented that 19 families lived there at the time. The village is situated on clay, so the water supply is bountiful.
Abbots Langley is likely to be most famous for being the birthplace of Pope Adrian IV, the only Englishman to ever become Pope. He was born Nicholas Breakspear in around 1100.
