Pevensey
Pevensey is a village and civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The major village lies five miles (8 km) north-east of Eastbourne, one mile (1.6 kilometres) inland from Pevensey Bay. The negotiation of Pevensey Bay creates part of the parish. It was below that William the Conqueror made the touchdown in his invasion of England in 1066 after going across the English Channel from Normandy, France. In 1207 the community was provided a royal charter by King John and was governed by Pevensey Corporation. With the decline in the community's value by the 19th century, the Corporation was ultimately dissolved in 1886 and also the town lost its borough standing.
