Brackley is a town in south Northamptonshire. It's roughly 19 miles (31 kilometres) from Oxford and 22 miles (35 kilometres) from Northampton. Traditionally a market town which focused on the wool and lace trade, it was built on the intersection of trade routes between London, Birmingham and the English Midlands and in between Cambridge and Oxford. Brackley has a population of about 13,018 (2011 Census) which has increased considerably from 2,467 in 1901. The town was the site of an important meeting amongst the barons and representatives of the King in 1215, the year of the Magna Carta. In 1602, the metaphysical poet John Donne was elected as Member of Parliament for the Brackley constituency. Brackley is close to the Silverstone car racing circuit, and features some industry associated with Formula One racing, notably the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team which is based within the town, and the Force India F1 team which runs a wind tunnel on the old site of the town's north railway station. The Brackley Morris Men are 1 of only 7 'traditional Cotswold' Morris dancing sides remaining in England and the only 1 still running in Northamptonshire. The plate which is still in the possession of St Peters Church is dated 1623, and is inscribed with the names of seven men, whom local folklore believes to have been the morris dancers.
