Kenley is a district in the south of the London Borough of Croydon (historically in Surrey). Kenley is positioned 13 miles south of Charing Cross. Hammond Innes' book Attack Alarm was based on his experiences as a Royal Artillery anti-aircraft gunner at RAF Kenley amid the Battle of Britain. It contains graphic descriptions of the station and attacks on it in 1940. English Heritage identified Kenley as the "most comprehensive fighter airfield linked to the Battle of Britain to have actually survived".
