Over time guttering may become blocked by waste, leaves, or moss which can cause leaks or damage to the guttering. Leaking or improperly draining guttering can cause further problems to the building including serious structural issues, so it is essential to have your guttering cleaned if you believe there may be any blockages. Regular preventative cleaning will ensure that your guttering is collecting and diverting rainwater as effectively as possible. Cleaning guttering is generally done by utilising specialist equipment such as telescopic hoses or high access vans, and experienced guttering companies can utilise this equipment to clear blockages and clean out the guttering system. Guttering blockages can lead to a buildup of water in the guttering itself. This is exceptionally serious in downpipes, where water may sit for a considerable period of time. In winter this water could freeze and result in significant damage to the guttering. Preventative gutter cleaning is critical to stop this from happening. Specialist guttering companies can assess your gutter cleaning and maintenance requirements and agree on a regular routine of work with you, ensuring that they adhere to all health and safety requirements for working at height. The type and frequency of gutter cleaning can vary greatly depending on the variety of guttering you have as well as the position of any close by trees, but a standard guide is that cleaning should be carried out twice a year to ensure that your guttering remains in the best condition possible.
