As time passes guttering can get filled by waste, leaves, or moss and this can lead to leaks or damage to the guttering. Leaking or inadequately draining guttering can cause further problems to the building including significant structural issues, so it is critical to have your guttering cleaned out if you think there may be any blockages. Regular preventative cleaning will make sure that your guttering is collecting and diverting rainwater as efficiently as possible. Cleaning guttering is generally done by utilising specialist devices such as telescopic hoses or high access vans, and professional guttering companies can use this equipment to clear blockages and clean out the guttering system. Guttering blockages can result in a build up of water in the guttering itself. This is particularly problematic in downpipes, where water could sit for a substantial period of time. In winter this water could freeze and result in significant damage to the guttering. Preventative gutter cleaning is critical to stop this from occurring. Expert guttering companies can examine your gutter cleaning and maintenance requirements and agree on an ongoing routine of work with you, ensuring that they adhere to all health and safety requirements for working at height. The type and frequency of gutter cleaning can vary greatly depending on the variety of guttering you have as well as the position of any close by trees, but a general guide is that cleaning should be performed twice yearly to ensure that your guttering remains in the best condition possible.

Ashtead is a village inside the Metropolitan Green Belt of Surrey. The Ashtead Residents' Association, established in 1945, aims to represent the opinions of all who reside in Ashtead via a network of more than a hundred Road Stewards and frequent meetings. Ashtead includes a substantial two-part conservation area including the mansion Ashtead House used by City of London Freemen's School, and 6 other schools. Amenities include parks, outlying woodland trails and also a high street with convenience shopping, cafes and restaurants, a football club and a cricket club. There has been settlement in Ashtead since at least Roman times, with a Roman villa dug up in what's now Ashtead Common. Ashtead features in the Domesday Book as Stede. The oldest portion of Ashtead has the main shopping and social area of the village, with 2 pubs and the Ashtead Village Club which is a C&IU affiliate. It includes a small southern conservation area, however outside of this has eight listed brick buildings, both more than two centuries old, including the Old Rectory which has been broken up into Ashtead Lodge, Forge Cottage and Wisteria Cottage which are dated to roughly the 17th century and are also Grade II listed. The region to the north of the railway line is Ashtead Common, managed by the City of London Corporation subject to a long-standing preservation order, and is a national nature reserve. Lower Ashtead is a relatively flat location leading to Ashtead Common that includes a recreation ground, a youth club and skate park, a pub, and a range of shops all built near the preserved large square of wood in front of the railway station. Ashtead Park contains three large listed buildings and four lakes/ponds. FAQs

what happens if you don't clean your gutters?

Gutters are a crucial component of any roofing system. They’re designed in such a way to protect your home or property from serious water damage, but keeping them clean and in good condition is something that’s almost always forgotten or ignored. Do not be deceived even when rain water is still running from them or they don’t appear to be clogged. Failure to clean maintain your gutters can lead to a wide range of outcomes and they aren’t so pretty. According to experts, gutter cleaning should be done twice a year - once in the spring and once in the fall. In order to help you realize the importance of cleaning your gutters, we’ll look at some of the possible outcomes of a neglected gutter.

  • Leaky roof. If your gutters get clogged and cannot move water away from your home, it begins to build up on the roof and eventually lead to damages like rot and mold. As the damages spread, the end result could be a severe damage to the attic and supports.
  • Damaged foundation. If the gutters are not functioning as they should, water saturation becomes a great threat to the foundation of your home or property. The concrete will crack or wood rots and you can also end up with mold.
  • Creepy crawler infestation. Wherever you have stagnant water, there are also bugs. This is because they love the wet and moisture-filled gutters. You get unwanted visitors like carpenter ants, roaches and mosquitoes, just to mention a few.
  • Driveway and path damage. When the downspouts aren’t directing the water to the appropriate spot, the excess that comes in contact with these surfaces can lead to cracks or sagging.
how much to clean gutters?

Leaves, twigs and moss all have one thing in common which often annoys home and property owners - they are the three main materials that negatively impacts the proper functioning of a roof guttering system. The major cause of water drainage problems for most homes and buildings are these organic materials. Wondering how some leaves and few twigs can cause such a big problem? Over time there’ll be a gradual build up of the natural debris in your gutter system which starts to rot and turn  to a thick and muddy goo which obstructs the flow of water in your drainage. As a result, there’s the need to make sure that your gutters are thoroughly cleaned at least twice annually in order to prevent bigger issues that can be caused by the blockage of a drainage system.

So if you’re considering getting your gutters cleaned by a professional, you’d probably be interested in know just how it’s going to cost. Well, there’s not straightforward and simple answer to this question as there are a number of factors that contributes to the final cleaning cost of your gutters.

In general, in the UK, the average cost for cleaning of gutter is usually around £18 to about £25 per hour. However, you can also be quoted a day rate which is usually ranging between £150 to £200 per day.

The factors that can affect gutter cleaning price includes the type of your property (such as a terraced, end of terraced, detached and semi detached homes) which possesses a varying gutter cleaning price largely due to their size differences, the height of the building ( if you require the service for a property located on the second floor of a building, this would be a bit higher than if it were to be on the ground floor) as well as additional requests.

how to clean stained white gutters?

It can be a huge headache, but cleaning of gutters is a task that needs to be done and even more so when it’s a stained white gutter. Nobody want to do it, but everybody has to. If you happen to lack the required confidence to pull this off as it has to do with working at heights, then we’d strongly recommend that you get in touch with a reliable professional who can guarantee the best results for help and also save you some time and money from potential costly errors. In this post, we’re going to show you some of effective way in which you can tackle stained white gutters effectively.

Firstly, you’ll have to take out the ladder with a pair of rubber gloves. Simply position the ladder safely, climb up the roof and start removing the leaves and other debris clogging up the gutters. You can also make use of a garden trowel to remove the very thick debris. Once done, spray the gutter using a garden hose to flush out the dirt as this will make the stains visible. Then prior to cleaning, ensure to cover the plants or landscape underneath with tarp or plastic sheet since the cleaning solution may negatively impact the vegetation.

Start to clean by spraying an all-purpose cleaner on the stains and srub them off using a scrub brush. You can also try a mixture of 1/4 of water with 1 cup of bleach and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Dip your scrub brush in this solution to scrub off the stains. The bleach mixture is guaranteed to eliminate any mold or mildew that growing on your gutters with ease.

how often should gutters be cleaned?

Yes, it’s a dirty job, but every homeowner out there has got to do it! Your gutter needs to be free of dead leaves, birds’ nest and other debris as well as being through clean in order to perform its functions effectively. It’s just a part of the responsibilities that comes with owning a home. Dry leaves, tree branches and other materials build up in your gutters overtime especially during the dry summer and you won’t notice until the point where your gutters start overflowing during the first main rain of the season.

In the event whereby your dirty and clogged gutter is left unattended to, this can lead to several issues like a leaky gutter and mold, leaky roof and basements, cracked foundation, driveway and yard damage and several more which will definitely make you incur more unnecessary expenses. So the question is, how often should the gutters be cleaned? The answer is, it depends. According to several experts, gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year - which is once in the late spring and once in the late summer or early fall. However, there are a couple of factors that may make you have a rethink.

If you happen to have a pine tree growing above your house, it’ll be wise to consider inspecting your gutters every 3 months. This is because pine trees shed needles year-round and they usually have a lot of these needles to shed. In the situation whereby you’re located at a higher elevation, ice is will most likely be your greatest source of concern. Making sure that your gutters remain clean throughout the winter can be quite a headache, but damage to your roof cause by ice can be an even greater pain. Prevention is always better than cure.
