Gorebridge is a previous mining village in Midlothian, Scotland. The town obtains its name from the bridge across the River Gore, a tributary of the South Esk. It was the residence of Scotland's initial gunpowder mill, at the Gore Water, that started running in 1794. Gorebridge has a yearly Gala Day which always takes place on the 3rd Saturday in June. This is similar to a community fair, with rides and games. The gala day has a practice of selecting a Town King as well as Queen from the primary schools. Gorebridge has 4 primary schools, Gorebridge Primary, Stobhill Primary, St Andrews RC Primary and Gore Glen Primary. Greenhall High school used to offer the town however closed down in 1994. Regional youngsters now go to neighboring Newbattle Community High School, Lasswade High School or St David's RC Secondary school. Gorebridge's neighborhood football group is juniors Arniston Rangers that play residence video games at Newbyres Park. On 6 September 2015 Gorebridge saw the return of the Waverley Line with a new station improved the site of the initial station. This gives rail access to the Borders and also Edinburgh Waverley railway station. In the Gore Glen there is a shallow cavern, called "The King's Cave". According to legend a thief used to take cattle and also conceal in this close-by cave. It is not, as some think, called after Robert the Bruce, that was stated to have concealed below after defeat by the English.
