Looe is a small seaside community, fishing port as well as civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England, with a population of 5,280 at the 2011 census. Looe is 20 miles (32 kilometres) west of Plymouth as well as seven miles (11 km) south of Liskeard, divided in two by the River Looe, East Looe and also West Looe being attached by a bridge. Looe developed as two separate communities each with MPs as well as its own mayor. The town centres around a tiny harbour and also along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which moves between East as well as West Looe to the sea close to a sandy beach. Offshore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, lies Looe Island. Looe remains a fishing community, as well as preserved a number of fish dealers operating from the East Looe quayside up until the introduction of EU regulations. With its fleet of little angling watercrafts returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a reputation for obtaining excellent fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark angling, and is home to the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain. However, Looe's main organisation today is tourism, with much of the community given over to hotels, guest houses as well as vacation homes, along with a a great deal of pubs, dining establishments as well as beach tools, ice cream and also Cornish pasty vendors. Inland from Looe exist several camping and also campers websites, as well as the well-known Woolly Monkey Sanctuary. Other local attractions include the beaches, sailing, angling and also diving, as well as stunning seaside strolls (especially by means of Talland to Polperro). South East Cornwall boasts several stately homes, consisting of Antony House, Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe and Lanhydrock House, as well as the Eden Project near St Austell which vacationers can access by road.
