Garden Sheds in Lewisham

Garden sheds are a critical element of any practical garden space. They offer storage for cumbersome garden tools, as well as for other tools. A larger sized garden shed could even provide enough space for plant potting or a general workshop. Additionally, a large shed could be utilised as an indoor sitting area. Garden sheds come in an enormous variety of sizes and can be specified to your particular needs, providing you with complete control over the number and position of windows, type, size and location of door, and style of roof. Garden sheds usually are available in one of three materials. Wooden sheds are the classic style and can be integrated well into any garden creating a natural look, particularly if the wood used for the shed is matched to encircling fences. Wooden sheds remain very popular, although they will demand maintenance by retreating or staining the wood to maintain the life of the shed. Garden sheds are also constructed from metal, which is very durable and therefore ideal for storage of tools and other equipment. Metal sheds additionally require minimal maintenance. The final material for garden sheds is plastic, which in modern examples is far more resilient than might be expected. When contemplating a garden shed, it's vital to ensure that you pick one that will fit in your garden space. Garden sheds will need to be located on a level area, and will need a base to be built as a foundation. This base could be made from either concrete, paving, gravel or a floating wooden base, but will need to be the right size for your shed and capable of supporting the weight of your shed when loaded.

Lewisham

The London Borough of Lewisham is a London borough in south-east London, England and forms a part of Inner London. The borough wasestablished in 1965, by the London Government Act 1963, as an amalgamation of the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Lewisham along with the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford, which had been established in 1900 as divisions of the County of London. Nevertheless, minor boundary adjustments have occurred since its creation. One of the most substantial amendments were made in 1996, when the previous area of the Royal Docks in Deptford was transferred from the London Borough of Greenwich.

The local authority is Lewisham London Borough Council and it's primarily based in Catford. The borough covers an overall area of roughly 13.57 square miles. It's encompassed by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to the east, the London Borough of Bromley to the south along with the London Borough of Southwark to the west. The River Thames forms a short section of northern boundary together with the Isle of Dogs inside the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Deptford Creek, Pool River, River Quaggy and River Ravensbourne pass by way of the borough.

As outlined by population estimates made in the middle of 2014, Lewisham is a borough with about 291933 permanent residents. Main landmarks consist of All Saints Church in Blackheath, the Citibank Tower in Lewisham and Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church. The Prime Meridian passes through Lewisham. Blackheath, Goldsmiths, University of London and Millwall F.C. are located within the borough.

FAQs

Can I insulate my shed?

Yes, it is possible to insulate a shed. You might want to do this if you’re planning on working in it during the winter. A professional will be able to help you find an insulated shed or advise you on how to insulate a shed that you already have. Always seek professional advise first before attempting to do this yourself!

Where should I put my garden shed?

Try to put your shed in open space, away from trees, bushes and other buildings. This will help to protect it from falling branches and sap. It will also mean that you can access all sides of the shed for repair and maintenance purposes. Make sure you take a look at garden shed planning rules before you pick a final spot for your shed.

Does my garden shed need a base?

Yes, your shed does need a base. This is to give it a solid, level foundation. Open soil will not help with the longevity of the shed itself or the contents within. The best materials to use to make your shed base are concrete, natural stone or wood.

How to felt a shed roof?
Whether you want to felt a new shed roof or you’re re-felting your existing shed roof, it’s simple when you know how. Read our quick guide to see how easy it is.
  1. Remove any existing fascia boards Remove the fascia boards and the old felt if you’re re-felting.
  2. Measure the shed roof Measure the roof, taking into account that you should leave around 50mm for overlaps at the eaves and 75mm at the gable ends. You’ll probably need 3 pieces of felt, but some smaller sheds only need 2.
  3. Apply felt to the roof Once you’ve cut the felt to size, apply the each piece to the roof, pulling it tight. Then nail along the length of the roof at 100mm intervals. For nails at the bottom edge, they can be wider – around 300mm. If you’re adding a piece of felt in the middle of the shed along the apex, fix it using adhesive, then nail it at the lower edge at 50mm intervals.
  4. Tidy up the overhangs Fold down the felt at each overhang and nail it securely. Cut a slit in the overhang at the apex using a pen knife, then fold that down and nail at 100mm intervals along the gable. If you like, you can add fascia boards to keep the shed looking neat. Use wood nails to secure them and then trim away any excess felt.
That’s it. It sounds scary, but it won’t take you long to felt your shed roof as long as you follow instructions carefully.
