Garage conversion professionals in Helston

If you have a rarely used garage area, why not consider a conversion in Helston and make the most from the home. Take a look at up to four free quotes with our service and find the very best price for a conversion.

One of the leading advantages with a garage conversion is that the space can be converted quickly for the additional room you would like, whether it's for a growing family or just to add to the value of your home.

A garage conversion means you won't have to relocate for extra space, which can save thousands of pounds on solicitor fees, estate agent payments and stamp duty. And the extra room can be converted into anything you need, no matter if it's an expansion to the living area or kitchen, or possibly a separate room entirely.

With the infrastructure already in place it's evident that a garage conversion will be cheaper than creating an extension too, and won't consume valuable space within your garden. With the exterior unlikely to change as well, it's an alternative way to bypass restrictions for conservation areas as well as listed buildings.

Should you be thinking about converting your garage, check quotes from companies within Helston using our simple and fast service to receive the best deal available.

Helston

Helston is a town and civil parish in Cornwall, England in the UK. It is situated at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula about 12 miles (19 kilometres) east of Penzance and 9 miles (14 kilometres) south-west of Falmouth. Helston is the most southerly town on the island of Great Britain and is around 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometres) further south than Penzance. Helston is situated along the shores of the River Cober in Cornwall. Downstream is Cornwall's largest natural lake Loe Pool, formed when a shingle bar blocked the mouth of the river by increasing sea levels forming a barrier beach. To the south is the Lizard Peninsula, an area critical for its complex geology and wildlife environments. The town is one of the mildest areas in the country and frosts are rarely severe. The population in 2011 was 11700. Locals can take part in a range of yearly events that take place at several points over the course of the year. The former stannary and livestock market town is best known for the annual Furry Dance, known regionally as the Flora Dance, thought to originate from the medieval period. Nevertheless, the Hal-an-Tow is understood to be of Celtic origin. The song, and music, connected with the Furry Dance is known to have actually been written in 1911. In 2001, the town honored the 800th anniversary of the granting of its Charter. The town also has an active sporting scene, with Helston RFC, Helston Athletic FC and Helston Cricket Club all having prominent roles within the community. The Swallows Gymnastics Club is also incredibly popular within the region. For all your home renovations, make sure to identify trustworthy contractors in Helston to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Will the company deal with the building control application?

Most companies will make the building control application on your behalf and ensure that all the work is completed to the right standards. When a building inspector has inspected it, you’ll get a certificate. It usually takes around 6-8 weeks after completion to come.

do you need an architect for a garage conversion?
Have you decided to convert that under-utilized space ( garage) in your home to a more habitable space where you can do anything asides general storage or parking a car? If yes, then you’d probably want to know where to start or if you’d require an architect to get started. Well, you’re not alone! This is one of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to garage conversions and reasonably so. Talking about where to get started, when it comes to home improvement projects the first step to take is determining whether or not you’d require a planning permission or if your proposed garage conversion is covered under permitted development rights. Once you’ve been able to conclude on that, the next step is deciding whether you’re going to complete the project yourself, hire the services of tradesmen or employing a builder. And this ultimately brings us to the question of whether you’ll need an architect for a garage conversion. To get started, it’s highly recommended that you employ the services of a professional architect or an architectural technologist to assist in designing your garage conversion. However, most garage conversion projects are straightforward with no complex changes to be made so far you wish to avoid applying for a planning permission and staying within the set guidelines of the permitted development rights. In such events, if you’re properly trained and well experienced in the field, then it may be cost effective to design your garage conversion by yourself. It should, however, be noted that it all depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you’re on tight budget and don’t mind a straightforward design, you can save cost by not hiring an architect.
do i need planning permission for a garage conversion?

Are you thinking about converting your garage into a new space? Be it a new bedroom, gym, library or playroom, one thing you’ll have to consider before getting started is whether or not you’re going to require a planning permission. Unlike extensions that needs additional space, garage conversion is all about changing the existing structure of a space that’s already available to you - your garage. As a result, these projects are mostly covered by a planning policy that’s a bit different.

For a garage conversion, it’s very unlikely that you’ll need a planning permission. As a matter of fact, only 10 percent of garage conversions has been estimated to need a full planning permission, with the others coming under the permitted development rights. The permitted development rights, however, only provides coverage for home improvements that’s internal which implies that so far you’re not trying to enlarge your garage, you’ll not require a planning permission. But if otherwise, you’ll have to submit an application before commencing your project.

If you’re looking to comply with the permitted development rights, then your project must comply with some specific guidelines. These rules include the following:

• The work should be internal. No plans to enlarge or extend the existing garage.

• You should make sure that the materials used in carrying out the garage conversion is the same with the materials used in building the existing house.

• The building should not be extended.

You may, however, require a planning permission if you’re going to change a detached garage into a living space which could be a bedroom, small annexe or a living room.

Some houses excluded from the permitted development rights include flats, listed buildings, some new developments and most homes in a conservation area.

Will my garage conversion cause disruption to the rest of the house?

It shouldn’t do. Most companies will do all the interior work first, and the last job to do will be creating the opening from the house to the conversion. A reputable company will make sure they cause as little disruption as possible during this time.
