Abertillery

Abertillery, which translates as 'Mouth of the River Tyleri', is the biggest town in the Ebbw Fach valley in what was the historic county of Monmouthshire, South Wales. Immediately after local government reorganisation it became part of the Blaenau Gwent County Borough administrative area. A great deal of the landscape surrounds the Brecon Beacons National Park along with the Blaenavon World Heritage Site.

Historically a significant coal mining centre, the Abertillery area has undergone considerable transformation in recent decades. The local landscape has long been known for its varied natural beauty. Positioned around the A467, the town is about 15 miles (22 km) north of the M4 and 5 miles (eight km) south of the A465 'Heads of the Valleys' trunk road. It's about 25 miles by road from Cardiff and 47 miles from Bristol. Based on the 2011 Census, the town features a permanent population of around 11601 inhabitants.

Statistics collected by The Welsh Language Board (Bwrdd yr Iaith Gymraeg) in 2001 show that 1146 (9.9 %) of Abertillery spoke Welsh, which decreased by 2.7 percent in 2011 to 7.2 per cent. Abertillery's traditional-style town centre was mainly created during the late 19th century and features some striking Victorian architecture.

Spreading over more than four primary streets, the town had two department stores and a covered Victorian arcade linking two of the main shopping locations. They are all incorporated in a Blaenau Gwent Borough Council remodelling and modernisation project. By 2014, completed projects included several streets, public areas and also the town's Metropole Theatre. This RICS award-winning building delivers state of the art production, exhibition, conference and meeting facilities as well as housing the Abertillery Museum.

FAQs

how much does a garage conversion cost?

Are you looking to create some more space in your home with your garage being almost dispensable? If yes, then considering a garage conversion project may be the way to go. Unlike many other extension options, garage conversion does not take up an additional space as it only changes the current structure of the garage. As a result, the cost of completing a garage conversion project can be relatively attractive when compared to other space creating alternatives. So exactly how much would a garage conversion project cost? Well, there’s no precise answer for this as several influencing factors come to play. However, in this guide we’ll give you a rough idea of the average costs that you’re likely going to encounter. Some of the factors that can influence your budget dramatically includes the following:

• The size of the conversion. The larger the size of the garage per square feet, the more cost you’ll have to expend.

• The type of your property - listed buildings are usually more expensive.

• Your location in the UK. If you stay in London where there’s a higher demand, you’ll most likely pay more.

• You’re likely to pay more if a specialist knowledge is required.

• The amount of glazing to be installed

• Quality of the materials to be incorporated.

• Quality of the professional to carry out the installation service.

On average, when it comes to garage conversion projects, you’re likely to pay the following depending on the per square metre given:

• A single garage of about 15 square metre will cost within the range of £6,000 to £15,000.

• A double garage of about 30 square metre will cost within the range of £12,000 to £30,000.

Will the company deal with the building control application?

Most companies will make the building control application on your behalf and ensure that all the work is completed to the right standards. When a building inspector has inspected it, you’ll get a certificate. It usually takes around 6-8 weeks after completion to come.

what is a garage conversion?

What is your garage being used for? If your answer is anything besides your vehicle, you’re in the majority in the UK. In the country, according to a research by Admiralty Loans, several home and property owners now use their garage as dumping ground for all sorts of stuffs asides a car. Ultimately, this gives rise to garage conversions as the more or less underutilized space can be converted into a living space which can be more beneficial while also adding more value to the property.

A garage conversion is a fast and relatively affordable route to adding more floor space within your home. It’s basically the act of changing your garage into something other than a storage or a place in which you can park your car. This can be anything from a bedroom to a playroom and anything in between. It’s a great way to provide extra space to allow your family to spread out and have more privacy while still within the walls of your home.

A garage conversion project is a huge one which mostly does not require a planning application so far the conversion is internal. However if you’re planning to increase the garage’s size or change the exterior of your home, or convert your garage into a separate room, then you may require a planning permission before getting started. It’s always wise to consult your local authority before carrying out any work to be on the safer side.

A project of garage conversion’s magnitude is better left to a reliable professional who have the experience when it comes to dealing with building regulations and more. This way, you’d also get to save yourself some headaches and some extra cash which may result from possible costly errors.

how much is a single garage conversion?

Converting your garage into a habitable room can be an option that’s too good to pass up especially when you’re in dire need of more living space in your home. If you’re in a similar situation and considering the cost of a single garage conversion in your home, then you’ve come to the right place! The fact is, the cost of a single garage conversion is dependent on a number of influencing factors which includes your specific plans as well as your location. Generally, the price of garage remodel is expected to cost about half of what you’ll incur when building a home extension or addition from scratch. However, before commencing a project of this magnitude you should put into consideration some things.

A single garage conversion is a huge job which typically involves wall insulation, floor raising, heating addition, cool and ventilation as well as updating doors and windows. Before you get started you should consider if converting your single garage into a room is a good option, whether a permit is required to convert a garage, the type of room a garage can become, does it add value to your home and how much its going to cost.

Just like any other home improvement project, garage conversion cost varies depending on several factors like your garage space specifications. Other factors include the general condition of your garage - the condition of your foundation, walls, floors or roofs, the ceiling and more, planning applications, your location, the services of a structural engineer, internal or external garages etc. According to Santander, the average cost of converting a single garage costs approximately £6,300. However, considering the aforementioned influencing factors we’d expect the cost of a single garage conversion to cost within the range of £5,500 to £10,500.
