Newnham

Newnham or Newnham on Severn is a town in west Gloucestershire, England. It lies in the Royal Woodland of Dean, on the west bank of the River Severn, around 10 miles south-west of Gloucester and also three miles southeast of Cinderford. It gets on the A48 road in between Gloucester as well as Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales. The village has a parish council. A parish church was established in the 14th century (although there had been a chapel of convenience given that 1018), and in 1366 a new church building was improved the high ground of the village as the old one encountered erosion from the river. The brand-new building has itself been harmed by a gunpowder explosion in 1644 throughout the English Civil War and also a fire in 1881, but is still being used. Because of Newnham's location on the Severn, the Old Romans constructed three roads with the place, where they forded the river. The Anglo-Saxons developed an irreversible settlement, the Normans constructed a motte-and-bailey fortification for protection, and in medieval times it became a major port with links around Great Britain as well as Ireland. In 1171, Henry II of England presented an invasion of Ireland from Newnham. One account claimed that he set out with 400 ships and also 5,000 guys, which suggests its significance as a port. For a time Newnham was the most effective Gloucestershire community west of the Severn. Its role as a port as well as trading center declined, nonetheless, rapidly with the 1827 opening of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. In 1810, an early attempt at a Severn tunnel started construction simply southern of Newnham. Work was abandoned after flooding in 1812. The civil parish belongs to Newnham and Westbury electoral ward. This ward begins in the north at Westbury-on-Severn and then adheres to the River Severn to Newnham. The total population of the ward taken at the 2011 census was 3,088.

FAQs

How to repair wooden flooring

One the several of the several benefits that comes with having a wooden floor installed is the fact that damaged surfaces can be repaired without the need to replace the floor in the whole room. This is not applicable to many other types of flooring whereby even the littlest damages are not reparable. Depending on the severity and depth of the wooden flooring damage, there are a number of techniques you can incorporate to repair the affected area. For examples, minor damages will not require as much effort as corner curling or cupping. In certain cases where the job requires no expertise, the repair process can be done by any individual with no prior experience in similar works. However, in other cases, when the wooden flooring has suffered a major damage, it’s advisable to call for a professional help.

First of all, it’s quite important to always watch out and prevent any sort of damages as this is way better than spending time trying to have the damaged surface repaired. One of the ways to prevent damages is by always lifting furniture rather than just dragging it across the floor when you need to move it. However, accidents are always meant to happen. In the case of damaged wooden flooring, here are some repair solutions.

When there are small scratches on your flooring, simply add a new coating of sealer to your floor (if the floor has already been oiled, just add another layer of oil). For lacquered floors, make use of a lacquer repair pen to help get rid of the scratches. In addition, there are some DIY shops offering wax filler sticks which can be used to hide or remove both light and medium scratches on wooden flooring.
