Flooring Renovation in Minehead

Renovating floors could require an array of tasks, from cleaning and maintenance, repairing existing flooring or even entirely removing and replacing floors. The type of restoration work will depend on the type of the current floor. In older houses with period floors like flagstone, quarry tile or parquet, restoration will often include repair and cleaning of the pre-existing floor as it will likely be an appealing feature of the house. In newer homes with carpet or wood floors, restoration is more likely to consist of totally replacing the current flooring, either like for like using a similar material, or by changing from one material to another. For wooden floors, the procedure of renovation generally involves sanding the top layer of real wood down, cleaning and then revarnishing or staining. Tile flooring can be cleaned and any broken or damaged tiles swapped, accompanied by regrouting or resealing. For carpets, maintenance can usually only extend to cleaning of the pile, any further issues or damage will typically require replacing the carpet. Specialised floor renovation companies can advise you of the best method to breathe new life into tired floors or bring old floors up to a high standard. Specialist tools may also be required for repairing or replacing flooring.

Minehead

Minehead is a coastal town and civil parish in the English county of Somerset. It rests on the south bank of the Bristol Channel, approximately 21 miles (34 km) north-west of the county town of Taunton, 12 miles (19 kilometres) from the border with the county of Devon and in distance of the Exmoor National Park. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11981, meaning that it is the most heavily populated town in the West Somerset local government area. There is indication of human occupation in the region since the Bronze and Iron Ages. There was a modest port at Minehead by 1380, which became a major trading centre during the course of the medieval period. Many trade moved to more substantial ports throughout the 20th century, but pleasure steamers did call at the port. A notable surge in construction throughout the early years of the 20th century produced the wide main shopping avenue and adjoining streets with Edwardian-style architecture. There are a range of schools and religious, cultural and sporting facilities including sailing and wind surfing and golf. A popular ancient local custom involves the Hobby Horse, which takes to the streets for four days on the eve of the first of May each year, with accompanying musicians and rival horses. The town is the starting point of the South West Coast Path National Trail, which is the nation's longest long-distance countryside walking trail. The Minehead Railway was opened in 1874 and closed in 1971, but it has actually subsequently been reopened as the West Somerset Railway. For all of your home improvements, be sure to find credible contractors in Minehead to make certain of quality.

How to repair wooden flooring

One the several of the several benefits that comes with having a wooden floor installed is the fact that damaged surfaces can be repaired without the need to replace the floor in the whole room. This is not applicable to many other types of flooring whereby even the littlest damages are not reparable. Depending on the severity and depth of the wooden flooring damage, there are a number of techniques you can incorporate to repair the affected area. For examples, minor damages will not require as much effort as corner curling or cupping. In certain cases where the job requires no expertise, the repair process can be done by any individual with no prior experience in similar works. However, in other cases, when the wooden flooring has suffered a major damage, it’s advisable to call for a professional help.

First of all, it’s quite important to always watch out and prevent any sort of damages as this is way better than spending time trying to have the damaged surface repaired. One of the ways to prevent damages is by always lifting furniture rather than just dragging it across the floor when you need to move it. However, accidents are always meant to happen. In the case of damaged wooden flooring, here are some repair solutions.

When there are small scratches on your flooring, simply add a new coating of sealer to your floor (if the floor has already been oiled, just add another layer of oil). For lacquered floors, make use of a lacquer repair pen to help get rid of the scratches. In addition, there are some DIY shops offering wax filler sticks which can be used to hide or remove both light and medium scratches on wooden flooring.
